A slice of history
Pizza is a dish that has survived since the Middle Ages, but back then it was described as an edible plate. The pizza as we know it today began to take shape in the late 1800s. Queen of Italy, Margherita, fell in love with the flat bread after traveling through her kingdom and had the luxury to being able to hire a private pizza baker at her castle.
The pizza baker's name was Raffaele Esposito, and he created the classic Margherita in the honor of the queen. Green basil, white mozzarella and red tomatoes. Art on a plate.
